slowthai has announced details of his upcoming third album. UGLY, which stands for U Gotta Love Yourself, will be released on March 3. Lead single "Selfish" is streaming below. To mark the announcement of UGLY, slowthai spent the night alone in a room fitted with two-way mirrors and streamed his experience live.
The world was blessed with a new slowthai album last week. The breakout artist from Northampton, England exploded into the British rap scene with his debut album Nothing Great About Britain in 2019. Consistently praised for his ability to fuse the earliest influences of grime and post punk, slowthai has taken the latter genre to the next level in his latest record, and it is paying dividends artistically.
Liam says: BANGER ALERT!!! slowthai proper embraces his love for rock/punk music that he captured on his breakout hit 'Doorman' and it results in his best album to date. Some tracks embody the ramshackle indie sleaze of early Jamie T and The Libertines, whilst the Fontaines D.C. collab 'UGLY' adds nuance with it's a shoegaze leanings. UGLY is a new direction but not necessarily a permanent one. The message is change after all. Internalizing and reflecting; the whole process of making the record has been one of relearning not to care what people think and reclaiming the freedom that drew slowthai to music in the first place.
slowthai has announced his anticipated third full-length album, UGLY, is coming on March 10 via Method Records/Interscope (pre-order). The album title is an acronym for "U Gotta Love Yourself," and UGLY sees slowthai embrace singing as well as rapping. He says:
